Marion Royle Artist

Marion’s move to the south coast gave her the impetus for a new style of painting and a new raft of work.  She paints full time in her studio in Lymington. Local sources of inspiration include masts and rigging, coastal birds and the sea. A long-standing passion for painting in oils has been extended to include experimentation with cold wax which has opened up new ways of creating texture in her work.

Composition and abstraction are challenges Marion relishes and her paintings are generally constructed from more than one viewpoint.  Her work encompasses two main subjects on different scales.

The first subject: views from yachts including masts, rigging and sails. The aim is to capture the dynamic experience of being at the helm and/or sailing. Compositions are derived from various views and are generally large scale, bespoke format eg 44cm x 88cm.

The second subject: coastal birds, observed on the Lymington to Keyhaven Nature Reserve. These paintings are small scale eg. 28cm x 19cm.
