Wherry Yacht Charter is a charity that has preserved a fleet of Iconic Norfolk Wherries and each year from Easter until September their volunteers run a programme of sailings to enable anyone to experience the pleasure of sailing on the peaceful rivers of East Anglia on one of their superbly restored old wherries.
These wherries were built for wealthy Edwardians and have wonderful varnished wooden interiors with plush sleeping cabins and even a piano.
Full-day sailings are available from £30, including tea/coffee during the trip and passengers have the freedom to sit on deck, on the large counter stern (the bit at the back!) or below decks as they wish.
Details of their programme can be found at wherryyachtcharter.org and bookings made by phoning (01603) 781475 or contacting bookings@wherryyachtcharter.org
The wherries are also available (with volunteer crew) for chartering for a special event or anniversary for a day or longer , including sleeping on board. Contact details as above
The charitable trust depends on the income from its sailings and charters to finance the ongoing maintenance of these vessels, together with donations and through the support of the Friends of Wherry Yacht Charter (Membership of this group is £15 per person per year)
