Built over the ancient wall looking up the old farm courtyard and onto the hill beyond and the oak-banked stream on the other side, Barberry Brook is just one of the Fingals Apart cottages run by Sheila Johnston in this beautiful corner of the South Hams. Sitting on the balcony over the stream, listening to the babbling brook on one side and cooing of Sheila’s numerous doves on the other will send you into an ecstatic, soporific state.
Another is the quirky, homely Folly built on top of the original farm mill which faces south overlooking the grass tennis court and having balconies over the stream at the back.
In designing the holiday accommodation Sheila has endeavoured to make it homely with all mod cos, as well as keeping an eye on art and design, filling the apartments with oriental carpets, antiques, objets d’art and original paintings by our local artists.
